In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, chopped spinach, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes. Season generously with salt and pepper.
Mix all ingredients with your hands until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.
Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil.
With damp hands, form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and carefully place them in the skillet. Cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. You may need to do this in batches.
Once meatballs are browned, reduce the heat to low and sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top of each meatball. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove the lid and let the meatballs cook for another minute to slightly crisp the cheese if desired.
Transfer the meatballs to a serving platter and garnish with fresh basil before serving.
