Brew your coffee or espresso using your preferred method, ensuring it's strong for a rich flavor.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the cocoa powder and sugar (if using) with a splash of hot water, creating a smooth chocolate paste.
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brewed coffee, roasted hazelnut syrup, and the chocolate paste, whisking until well blended and slightly heated through.
In a separate pan, steam your milk until hot and frothy. If you don’t have a steamer, you can heat the milk in the microwave or on the stove and then whisk vigorously to create froth.
Pour the chocolate-hazelnut coffee mixture into a large mug, leaving room for the steamed milk.
Gently pour the frothy milk over the coffee blend, letting it mix slightly.
Top with whipped cream, if desired, and sprinkle with chopped roasted hazelnuts and a pinch of sea salt for an added flavor twist.
