Bring the water to a rolling boil in a pot.
Remove from heat and add the tea bags to the hot water. Allow the tea to steep for 5-7 minutes depending on desired strength.
While the tea is steeping, in a separate container, combine the fresh lemon juice and honey (or agave syrup). Stir until the honey is completely dissolved.
Once the tea has steeped, remove the tea bags and let it cool for a few minutes.
Pour the lemon and honey mixture into the brewed tea and stir well to combine.
Add the crushed basil leaves to the tea, allowing them to infuse their flavor. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Strain the tea into a pitcher or large serving container to remove the basil leaves.
Chill the iced tea in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or until cold.
To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled tea over the ice. Garnish with lemon slices and a basil leaf for an extra touch.
