Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Wash and trim the asparagus, ensuring the tough ends are cut off.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
Add the trimmed asparagus to the bowl and toss until evenly coated with the zesty mixture.
Spread the asparagus in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Roast in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until the asparagus is tender and slightly crispy, stirring halfway through for even cooking.
If desired, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the asparagus during the last 2 minutes of roasting.
Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
