1tablespoonunsalted butter, diced into small pieces
1piecepremade pie crust
1pieceegg, beaten (for egg wash)
1servingwhipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a 9-inch pie dish by placing the premade pie crust inside, trimming any excess dough over the edges.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced pears with lemon juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, and all of the spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg). Toss until the pears are evenly coated with the mixture.
Pour the spiced pear mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Dot the top with small pieces of butter for added richness.
Cover the pie with another layer of crust (if using), crimping the edges to seal. Alternatively, you can create a lattice top by cutting the second crust into strips and weaving them over the pears.
Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to give it a lovely golden finish during baking.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. If the edges of the crust begin to brown too quickly, cover them with strips of aluminum foil.
Once done, remove from the oven and let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
