In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the blueberries and use a fork or potato masher to gently mash them.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chia seeds and vanilla extract.
Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to thicken; the chia seeds will absorb the liquid and create a jam-like consistency.
Taste the jam and adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more maple syrup if desired.
Once the jam has thickened to your liking, transfer it to a clean jar and let it cool completely before sealing.
Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
