Method
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the marinara sauce, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Stir well to coat the pasta.
In a baking dish, layer half of the ziti mixture, and then spread the ricotta mixture evenly on top.
Add the remaining ziti mixture on top of the ricotta layer. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
Once cooked, let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
