Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
After rinsing the chickpeas, place them on a clean kitchen towel and gently pat them dry. Removing excess moisture will help in making them crispy.
In a mixing bowl, combine the dried chickpeas with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using. Toss until all chickpeas are evenly coated.
Place the seasoned chickpeas in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding for even cooking.
Air fry the chickpeas for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Once done, let them cool for a few minutes before serving. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
